Health, safety and wellbeing at Openreach

At Openreach we’re committed to achieving the highest standards of health, safety and wellbeing across our business.

As part of that commitment, we hold the following accreditations:

  • Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme (CHAS)
CHAS is a scheme supported by the Health and Safety Executive and used by the majority of local authorities, housing associations, health trusts, fire services and similar public bodies so that contractors can get pre-qualification approval and be short-listed for work.
  • Achilles
We have achieved Achilles accreditation at Category B2, confirming the effectiveness of our health and safety management system through office and on-site audits of processes and procedures.
  • SAFEcontractor
SAFEcontractor is a health and safety accreditation scheme which undertakes audits to the SAFEcontractor Charter Standard which also meets the CDM Stage 1 Competence Assessment core criteria.
  • Health and Safety Passport – Energy & Utility Skills (EUSR)
Working with EUSR, we’ve created a Health, Safety and Environmental Passport scheme that checks our people’s understanding of health, safety and the environment in line with the core syllabus recommended by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE). Valid for three years the passport is also affiliated with the Constructions Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS).
